Sanchi Stupa

Sanchi Stupa : Originally built by the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka, the then governor of Ujjayini. Mahendra and Sanghamitra, the son & daughter of Emperor Ashoka were born in Ujjayini and were later sent to Sri Lanka. There they converted the King, the Queen and their people to Buddhism. This Stupa, along with other monuments built by the great Emperor, shows the great devotion of Emperor Ashoka to Buddhism.
