About Mamallapuram: Mamallapuram is in the south of Chennai. This little town is famous for Pallava art (6AD- 8AD). It is also famous for its beach with its Casuarina trees. An ideal spot for holidays.

Shore Temple

Shore Temple : The Shore Temple is one of the oldest temples in India. It stands on the sea shore with its paved forecourts. An immense bas-relief, 27m long & 8m high, intricately carved, depicts Arjuna's Penance.


Cave Temples

Cave Temples : The carvings in the Mahishasuramardini cave, which shows the goddess Durga killing a demon & Lord Vishnu in his cosmic slumber (ananthasayanam), are particularly remarkable.


Rathas

Rathas : The finely caved Rathas found here are known as the Rathas of the Pandavas. These five Rathas are example of sculptural excellence.
