Meltham 5 Pool 2
It was a flying start from Meltham, who in the first four minutes created three good chances which were wasted, two of them being blasted over the bar. The early pressure was maintained when on 7 minutes Adam Matthews passed to brother Tom who rounded the keeper and slide the ball into the corner of the net, it was all Meltham but Pool looked dangerous in the set piece and troubled the Meltham defence when they did get into the Meltham Half. After 18 minutes Nathan Addy played v the ball to Tom Matthews who slipped the ball under the keeper and into the Pool net. Three minutes later another Pool set piece the header this time cleared off the line by Jacobs. More Meltham pressure followed and it was soon three nil, a good ball from Tom Matthews to Adam Matthews who crossed in for Paul Hutson to scramble in for his first goal of the season. Just two minutes later it was four as Adam Matthews won the ball well in midfield, played it to Nathan Addy who beat the keeper, then coolly passed it into the net. The second half was only seconds old and poor Meltham defending let in Pool, a shot was well saved by Adam Lawlor, but the rebound fell to a Pool player who hit it home, this was to be the story of the second half and but for some wonderful saves by Lawlor, Pool could easily have got back in the game, Pool especially dangerous

Semi Final in Premire Cup
Meltham played the quarter final of the premier division cup away at Hall Green United where just a few weeks ago they had been held 2-2 and could easily have lost. Without the central midfield pairing of Traynor and Hutson, Hutson was out to injury while Ben Traynor has departed to South America travelling and will be out for the rest of the season. The match kicked off in high winds and a pitch described as heavy by Hall Green. Compared to Broadlands it was a bowling green! The match was one of little incident and was played mainly in one half of the field, fortunately for Meltham they had the conditions first, and for the first 16 minutes the match was played in the Hall green half, but without real incident. Then a long Matthews free kick bounced off the top of the cross bar, minutes later it was one nil, a long ball from Kaye to Tom Matthews who controlled it beat the keeper and taped home, six minutes later it was two Dawson beat the offside trap passed to Adam Matthews who slotted past the keeper. Hall Green had a good shout for a penalty but the referee decided to play on. In the second half Meltham had to confront the conditions and most of the play was now in there half, allowing just the occasional break. Not much was created however on 70 minutes Meltham conceded a penalty, the Hall Green player struck it wide, the referee however ordered it to be retaken, this time a tremendous save by Lawlor diving

Meltham 5 V Campion 1
In a match where Campion could draw level with Meltham in the top two of the West Riding County Amateur League, it took Tom Matthews just four minutes to break the deadlock, the ball was played by George Dawson to Adam Matthews who played a clever ball to his brother Tom, who beat his man and slipped the ball under the keeper. Three minute later it was two nil a great ball from Paul Hutson to Adam Matthews who again played in a good ball to his brother Tom, who again beat his man and shot past the advancing Campion keeper into the far corner of the net. Then for twenty five minutes the game was pretty even, Campion showing they are a good side with an interesting midfield battle between Paul Hutson and former Newcastle player Des Hamilton, however it was a touch of class from Adam Matthews, who plated a tremendous ball to Tom Matthews who again beat the advancing Campion keeper at the near post for his Hat Trick. A few more chances came and went, and then just before half time Campion applied pressure on the Meltham goal, it was not to be however as Ben Traynor this time played the ball to Tom Matthews who again finished well to make it four nil at half time. For the second half Meltham playing up hill, started under pressure from Campion, the centre of the pitch now cut up following the unexpected lunchtime rain. (Is rain ever unexpected at Meltham?) The Campion pressure finally told as Sam Wardill brought down the Campion forward in the Meltham penalty area on 55 minutes, the resultant penalty taken by Hamilton was hit hard to the Meltham goalkeepers left to give Campion some hope of a recovery. Six minutes latter a Meltham attack saw Nathan Addy brought down just outside the area by the Campion ke

After just seven minutes Gant beat his man took the ball into the penalty area and was brought down. He confidently tucked away the resulting penalty. Swillington started to get more into the game, goalkeeper Philpott dived at the feet of the centre forward, getting a kick to the head for his troubles. The result was he had to leave the field with concussion later to result in an overnight stay in hospital. The versatile Taylor took over in goal. Meltham A 1 V Meltham Reserves 3
Yes the challenge trophy draw gave Meltham V Melham. Or Gav V Stuart. The battle started over who played for who. Gav lost the early arm wrestling, but I think Stuart Cheated. Then the big match and quite clearly the fourth team were more up for it and looked more relaxed in the dressing rooms. The match itself started with the fourths on top and creating chances, on 19 minutes a back pass to Safe resulted in a bobble just in front of him and a massive air kick, with safe falling over and conceeding a corner,Bayliss made the most of the resultant corner heading the ball home to give the fourths a lead. the thirds by now were in a panic and making mistake after mistake. Stuart went for a calm half time team talk his words not mine, threatening the whole team with the pleasure of playing for the fourths next week, this treat seemed to work as ten minutes in to the second half a long threw by Hinchcliffe was headed on by vant and touched home at the near post by Bradley. How does Hinchcliffe throw the ball so far? his bombs in to the fourths box continued to cause problems. however neither side could score so we had a 1-1 draw and extra time. It was soon 2-1 as North rose to head home a corner, then just befor the end of the first period of extra time a shot by Varley bounced over the fourths keeper Dolly to make it 3-1 the usual Dolly expleatives followed. And that was it Stuart and his Thirds progress to the next round. Well done to everyone for providing an entertaining game

The first team will win division one of the West Riding County Amateur League if they beat Littletown on Saturday. The kick off is at 1430 at Littletown. The second team play their final fixture away at New Mill kick off 1415,it would be nice to see a win in the final game for a respectable mid table position. The third team play at Uppermill kick off 1415 any points would be welcome to cement the place in Reserve Division one.

Spectacular goal by Whiteley
Meltham closing in on the division one title had a good 5-2 win over Steeton, a good start when after only 13 minutes a shot by Hutson was spilled by the keeper in to the path of Matthews who followed up well to finish, two minutes later a corner by Dawson found the head of Traynor his powerful header finding the net.Nine minutes later Hutson got the ball, played it to Whiteley, Hutson made a run taking the defender Whitley looked up and hit the ball from 30 yards into the top of the Steeton net. On 34 minutes Dawson played the Ball in to Matthews who placed the ball into the net. Four nil at half time. The second half began well for Meltham a Matthews cross hitting the top of the cross bar. The the Meltham defence who had played so well in the first half went to sleep, the ball lost on the left wing left the Steeton winger unmarked he hit the ball into the near post and stand in keeper Taylor helped the ball into his own net, eight minutes later a free kick given away on the Meltham left was quickly taken to an unmarked Seeton player who stroked it into the net, Steeton from no where were back in the game at 4- 2,it was however short lived as four minutes later the ball was crossed in for Addy to Volley home. The final score was 5-2, with Keighley losing Meltham can make sure of the championship on Saturday 28th April.

18/04/07
Another step nearer the Premier
Kirkburton V Meltham, was expected to be an hard and close encounter, which is how it started, however Meltham were creating the better chances, whilst when Kirkburton got near the penalty area they were well marshalled by the Meltham defence. On 23 minutes man of the match Matthews found space on the right, he played the ball in to the area for Dawson to sweep it into the net. Most of the pressure was Melthams, whilst Kirkburton could only shot from distance giving the Meltham keeper no problems. The second half began again with Meltham pressure on 49 minutes it was in the net again, a Woodhead header to Brammall who found Whiteley who placed it in the net this time it was ruled offside. On 53 minutes Foster did well finding Matthews who crossed low for Dawson who got on the end of it to side foot it home. Kirkburton had a half chance on 69 minutes following a mix up between Woodhead and the Meltham Keeper but they could not finish. On 73 minutes the goal of the game a well worked move found Thornley who crossed to Whiteley in the box with his back to goal he juggled the ball before teeing it up for Hutson who volleyed it into the net 3-0 Meltham. The closest Kirburton came to scoring was a goal mouth scramble on 78 minutes the ball bouncing around the Meltham 6 yard box, some how Meltham got the ball clear. The match official was Elizabeth Simms it was refreshing to see the behaviour of the players and any bad language was toned down compaired with the vast majority of games,it was also a good and well refereed game. The win takes Meltham 6 points clear at the top with most likely challengers Keighley drawing 1-1 at Wakefield.

Extra time defeat for Seconds
A close encounter with local rivals Wooldale, resulted in an extra time defeat, with not much to choose between the teams Meltham took a 1-0 lead Sykes scoring the goal, a mix up at the back in the second half allowed the equaliser, the result was extra time again there was not a lot to choose between the teams, then in the second period the Wooldale centre forward rose to head home, Meltham pressed but were reduced to ten men with a sending off late in the match, a foul in the box gave Meltham the chance to take the match to penalties, however the goalkeeper saved the penalty and Wooldale were in the Semi-final on Easter Monday. Better news for the firsts with a 1-0 win at home to Heckmondwike Brammall getting the winner. All the nearest rivals dropped points leaving Meltham second but with games in hand. The Third team lost 4-1 at home to Uppermill

Goal of the season
All bets are off. Yesterday Spud scored what has to be the goal of the century never mind the season. Direct from the kick off at the start of the 2nd half playing towards the clubhouse end at Broadlands. It rocketed into the top left hand corner before Aimbrys goalie moved. I have never seen a better shot in all my life said Spuds Dad.

30/12/06
Bad Day at the Office
Not a win in sight, with the first team game off at the waterlogged Broadlands it was up to the seconds to produce the goods the result Lost 8-3 to the league leaders Newsome. Not much better with the Thirds who played on the top pitch (not sure why but a mud bath does not suit the Meltham style and the short trip to Honley must have made sense!)they then went down 2-1 at home to Heywood Sports, the goal coming from Bradley. Up to the fourth team then with a bottom of the table clash against Cartworth Moor. Both teams having to survive the weather, it was wet, it was windy, it was freezing (who would be a goalkeeper)Meltham started with the best of the conditions down hill for the first half, after about 25 minutes a well struck free kick by Abbott went under the keeper to make it 1-0, this was never going to be enought and soon after half time Moor equalised,Moor added two more down the slope with the referee letting play go with moor players miles offside, the forwards did finish well to there credit, which is more then can be said for the Meltham attack again missing some good chances, final score Cartworth Moor 3 Meltham "A" 1 Everyone glad to be off the pitch to find fingers and toes after severe frostbite!

23/12/06
Firsts Hammer Keighley
A fine performance from the first team, against a team only just behind them prior to this match. The score finished 5-0. The seconds went down 4-3 against Heywood Sports,in an even match which they were unlucky to lose. The fourths again went down by the odd goal losing 3-2 at Kirkheaton, this after being up 2-0.

16/12/06

E-mail From Boroughbridge
Neil,I appreciate it is easy to sing when your winning but your lads yesterday were a credit to your Club.Boroughbridge played well from 0 to15 and 75 to 90 minutes (or that is when they scored) and the rest of the game Meltham were the better side. The fact that they missed some glorious opportunities and our keeper made some excellent saves in the end was the difference between the two sides. After the game they enjoyed a pint and a bit of banter and it was a pleasure to have them around our Clubhouse. Please pass on our good wishes to them all.Dale Secretary BBAFC

02/12/06
Fourths win at Last!
Amazingly the 4th team had yet to win despite some good performances, today it changed with a 3-1 win against Shelley. The Third team grabbed a 2-2 draw after going 2-0 down goals from Rattigan and a Screamer from Varley (Well thats what Stew told me). A late equalizer conceeded two points at Wakefield for the first team drawing 1-1. The seconds big trip to Boroughbridge ended in a 4-2 defeat. So good by the WEst Riding Trophy for another year!

25/11/06

Another good weekend
Huddersfield FA Challenge Cup Well done first team 3-1 winners against Storthes Hall Currently top of the West Riding County Amateur Premeir League and probably expecting to thrash Meltham (upstarts from Division one)Bring on Cumberworth (District League Div Three)in the next round. Congratulations to the seconds also winners this time 3-2 against Uppermill and now 4th in Division One against everyone elses first teams! (Tony Bradley for Manager of the Month!) After this the picture is not so good the thirds going down to a 6-0 defeat to Diggle Reserves in the Challenge Trophy (Apparantly the night out in Uppermill made up for this with some outstanding proformances from several of the yonger players!) The fourths meanwhile also in the Challenge Trophy went down 3-2 after extra time against Lindley Libs (currently top of division Two)

18/11/06
2nds Win Again
Our good run continued yesterday at Uppermill when despite not playing well we still picked up the 3 points. We were 3 1 up at half time through goals from Cloudy Richie and Ginge. In the second half to be honest we rode our luck at times and had to withstand a really strong fightback from Uppermill who are desperate for points at the foot of the table. We held out though thanks to an outstanding performance from Bartez who deservedly took the man of the match honours.

11/11/06
Reunion
Thank you to all who attended the reunion on Saturday, it was a really good night, and some of the old photographs which people brought in were fantastic, as were some of the stories. Its a shame we do not have full records of all the events, which include an FA Cup game at Hessel! Time in the West Riding County Amateur League! Perhaps one day someone will collate all the information. Thank you again to these who attended. All the best to you all. Neil Moorhouse

11/11/06
Thrids win 4-1 in Richardson
Goals from Abbott [nice move, sidefoot finish], gee [punished defensive mixup], north [thumping 30yard] and varley [well earned tap in] gained the thirds a 4-1 cup win. good team performance, nice quick passing. only slightly marred by a shocking varley open goal 2 yard unmarked headed miss.

The 3rd round draw for the West Riding Trophy was made last night, Meltham Reserves drawing Boroughbridge away. The match will take place on Saturday 2nd December 2006. Boroughbridge play in the West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One and are currently in 4th place. Meltham should however be full of confidence following last weekends 3 nil demolition of Crag Road.

04/11/06
Second Team Trophy Win
Outstanding 3-0 win against Crag Road in the West Riding Trophy, and the manager missed it! Crag road last season held the first team to two draws in the West Riding League, well done the second team. Thirds win 3-1 at Mount, best goal of the day Simon Goggin. The fourth had to settle for a 3-1 defeat, but its the taking part and bringing players on for the other teams which is important. The firsts well! winning 2-1 with minutes to go allow Aberford Albion of the West yorkshire League to get back in the game, extra time and allow a goal each half for a 4-2 defeat. Lets get back on track in the league now!

28/10/06
Results today
A good win for the first team,4-1 away to Heckmondwyke, The second team edged the game against Honley 3-2, not the best of displays in poor conditions, the result was however all that matters and with 15 points now in the bag things are looking up for the division one campaign. Honley with three of our old players in the team are firmly stuck at the bottom on nil points, they will however suprise a few teams if they battle like they did today. No game for the 3rds so the 4ths made use of a few of the players and Lost 2-1

29/11/06

14/10/06
Thirds draw at home
An early Varley 25 yard low drive, got the 3rds off to a well deserved lead. Neither team created much. Gee hit the underside of the bar from 25 yard in the second half. Kirkheaton looked dangerous from set pieces, though nothing else. The defence played superb, with Cooper snuffing out their main threat. Midfield battled hard and took their knocks well. Both Bradley and Varley had their moments, but received no clear sights of goal. Dolly controversially dropped for the game, could be in for a recall, as the game saw Bez “blunder” to allow Kirkheaton the draw, he palmed a free kick back into the centre of the goal, for the forward to follow in. Encouraging that the 3rds are willing to play short passes, but the final ball still needs to improve.

14/10/06
2nds draw at Lepton
In the end a point gained as we fought back from 2 nil down after 20 minutes for a 2 all draw. It was one of those days when things didnt seem to go our way. Bartez didnt even make it through the warm up this time so ever reliable Spud was drafted into goal at the eleventh hour. We gave 2 soft penalties away (luckily they only converted one of them). After pulling a goal back before half time from the penalty spot, Dean Sykes netted again early in the second half, but our efforts to go on and to win the game werent helped when Rambo Hamby got himself a second yellow card for remonstrating a little too vigourously with an opponent who had just tried to break his leg. Remarkably, Cloudy lasted 85 minutes before being hauled off to keep his strength up for a big night out down town.

04/11/06
West Riding County FA Cup Draw
The draw for the county cup compititions could have been more favourable. Two testing matches to come on November 4th,In the challenge Cup Aberford Albion from the West Yorkshire Premier League and currently 13th entertain the first team. The seconds are at home in the Challenge Trophy and entertain Crag Road United from the West Riding County Amateur League and are currently in 5th position

14/10/06
Change of Fixture For Second Team
The fixture for Meltham seconds on Saturday 14th October will be Lepton V Meltham not as previously shown

07/10/06
West Riding Challenge Cup
Quality, what more can be said, everyone worked hard and in the end deserved this two nil victory. Playing up hill on a windy day much of the early pressure was on the Meltham Defence. However few chances were created by either side. Towards the end of the half Meltham were more in the game and on 44 minutes a looping shot from Blain found the back of the net. The second half was also close, but again few clear cut chances, towards the end it was backs to the wall with Dodson pulling off a couple of fine saves. A couple of half chances for Meltham failed to find the net, then with the referees whistle in his mouth about to blow for time the ball fell again to Blain who finished well.

07/10/06
2nds win 2-0 away at Aimbry
Now we are getting something like a settled team together the 2nd teams results are improving. Having said that we must have set a record having had 5 different goalkeepers in 6 games so far. Yesterdays was a hard fought win in a scrappy game played on a postage stamp sized pitch that didnt suit us at all. Chebs and Jim scored one in each half. The back four were excellent as was Spud in goal and MOM the crow aka Nathan Addy. First team won 2-0 in West Riding cup. 3rd team lost 3-1 at Newsome. 4th team no game.

11/11/06

30/09/06
First Win for 2nds
A great all round team performance brought us our first win of the season against Lepton at Broadlands yesterday. Two goals for hot shot Ginge and one for Nicky Whiteley. The only negative being Bartez lasting only 20 minutes on his return fron injury. Bez replaced him and didnt have a shot to save all game.

25/09/06
2nds make a point
Meltham hosted Wooldale in Division One and will have been disappointed to come away from a hard- fought contest with only one point. In the end, a combination of poor finishing and a battling defensive performance from Wooldale meant the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Wooldale took an early lead with a goal direct from a free kick. At this stage, Wooldale’s long ball game was causing Meltham’s defenders all sorts of problems and they went on to double their lead with Bradley’s smart finish after 30 minutes. Meltham fought back and Woodhead headed in just before half-time to set up an exciting second half. Meltham upped the tempo in the second half and they created enough chances to win the game. They could only manage one goal however when Sykes finished off a quick passing move with a close range finish.

25/09/06
Thirds lose 3-5 to Lepton
holland 74, hungary 54, everton 86, glorious footballing sides, who some how managed to lose. Soon to join that list, Meltham 3rds 06. At times in the first half on saturday, it was thought the game was infested with pigeons, but it turned out to be the opposition cooing over the quality of the football ripping their defence apart. The cooing soon turned to mockery as chance after chance was spurned and lepton 30 yard speculators found the top corner on two occasions, followed by two more hoof it and hope goals. Tough on Hinchliffe and Cooper who stood out in a good all round performance. Compared to the first half (3-4 h-t) chances were limited in the second. i know, excessive superlatives for the first half and yes we lost and at best only deserved a draw - but in the sunshine of an early autumnal afternoon, we really did play some quality football. There you go Dolly, didn’t even mention your limp wrists.

23/09/06
Normal Service is resumed
Meltham 6 Wakefield 0 W.R.Division 1 2 hatricks by George Dawson and Tom Matthews sealed a fine victory. 3 points were crucial to keep in touch with leaders Overthorpe. Dom Blaine and Sheddy made a welcome return to the squad.

18/09/06
2-1 all round
1sts no game this weekend. 2nd team lost narrowly at Sovereign Sports 2-1. 3rds provided the bright spot with a great 2-1 win over Berry Brow 2nds and the 4ths lost 2-1 at Netherton.

10/09/06
2nds at Diggle
Not a lot to say about this one on here. They played very well. We didnt. An own goal gave us the lead after 20 minutes then it was all downhill from there. Before half time awful defensive mistakes gifted them their first two goals then Chappy was sent off. Playing with ten men in the second half was always going to be difficult but the game was up when an even worse lapse just after half time gifted them another comedy goal. Nuff said. Oh better mention Waddy got MOM. And he is on holiday next week when we play Sovereign away.

06/09/06
2nds Draw 1-1 to Champions
The second team started their second season in the top flight of the Hudds League with a hard fought 1-1 draw at current champions Heywood Sports. Despite the atrocious conditions at LRPF they managed to play some decent football at times and deservedly equalised five minutes from time through a Jim Hamby cross-shot. This after they had unluckily gone behind after 30 minutes of a first half in which they had created the most chances. Special mention must go to young Danny Cooper stepping up from last years 4th team for his debut. He made a promising start but was forced off at half-time after a clash of heads. His replacement, young Simon Goggin, also stepping up from the 4ths, also impressed.

05/09/06
Thirds beaten 3-0 by Newsome WMC
The result might not suggest so, but the performance was more than encouraging. The youth played very well and adapted quickly to open age football. Nice passing moves into the gale created good chances. Shot shy 1st half with the gale, shot eager 2nd half into the gale. The goals came from two hit & hopes and a badly defended corner.

02/09/06
Solid Start for 4th Team
Just a bare 11 set out to Brook Motors for the first 4th team game of the season, conditions were appalling wet and windy yet it was still the cricket season! New managers Gav Atherton and James Townend managed to find a player who fitted each position. Remarkably this included two of the goal keepers union and safe found himself playing right back! We were late starting, due to a late change of ground due to the conditions, it was then a fine performance from the Meltham 11. Safehands was outstanding at full back and may have found himself a new position (however after the game he didn’t sound convinced) everyone contributed in a hard working first half, which ended 0-0. The second half got off to a great start fine work on the right and interchange by Cooper and Atherton amongst others, the ball came across the Motors box for a simple tap in by Hendrick. Chances fell at either end, then Moorhouse was punished for hand ball a surprise to all apart from the referee, the penalty was well finished by Brooks, soon after they scored a second and it was all starting to go wrong. However the Meltham 11 battled on and with about ten minutes to go Brooks conceded a penalty, which Gareth Cooper converted well. The final score was 2-2 and was probably the right result on the day
