The founder of the Reiki, a natural method of healing, is Dr Mikao Usui. During the late 1800s, Dr Usui was the President of the University of Dorshisha, a small Christian University at Kyoto, Japan. He was the Minister of Culture.
A conversation with a student at the beginning of one of the last Sunday services of the school year changed the course of Dr Usui's life. The student, who was about to finish his final exam raised his hand and asked Dr Usui "Do you accept the content of the Bible literally?" Dr Usui answered that indeed, he did accept the contents literally.
The student continued "In the Bible, it is said that Jesus healed patients, that he healed while touching wounds and that he walked on water. You accept this as it is written. Did you ever seen this happen?"
Dr Usui agreed that he believed it, but answered that he had never seen a recovery by the laying on of hands, nor anyone walk on water. The student continued "For you, Dr Usui, this blind faith way is sufficient because you are advanced in age and you live with certainty. What concerns us, who are in the beginning of our adult life, is that questions and thoughts are not sufficient. We need to see with our eyes."
A seed had been sown. The following day, Dr Usui submitted his resignation as President of the University and left for the United States, to the University of Chicago, where he got a Doctorate in Writings while trying to discover the secret of Jesus and his Disciples in healing patients by the laying on of hands. He did not find what he was looking for.
He realised that the Buddhist tradition mentioned healing with hands, so he decided to return in Japan to discover what the Buddhism could teach him.
Upon his return, Dr. Usui began to visit Buddhist monasteries to try to meet someone interested in healing with hands and who could share their knowledge with him. He received the same answer everywhere to his appeal "We are too occupied with taking care of souls to worry about healing bodies."
He finally met someone who was interested in the subject, an old abbot of a Zen monastery. Dr. Usui asked to be admitted to the monastery to study the Buddhist Writings (the "Sutras"), to try to discover the secret of healing hands. He was admitted there and began his research.
He studied the Japanese translations of the Sutras, but did not find the explanations he sought. He taught himself Chinese in order to have access to a greater number of written works, but still had no success.
He decided then to learn Sanskrit, the ancient language, in order to be able to read the original Buddhist Writings that had never been translated into another language.
Finally, he found what he was looking for. In Buddha's teachings that had been written down in Buddha's own words by an unknown disciple, Dr. Usui discovered the formula, the symbols and the description of the way in which Buddha was able to heal.
And so, at the end of a seven-year quest, Dr. Usui had found the answer he had studied and searched for – well, almost! Although he had acquired the knowledge, he had not received the power to heal.
While discussing what he had found with his old friend, the Zen abbot, he decided to leave the monastery to meditate on a mountain and further research this power. The abbot told him that this might be dangerous and that he could lose his life. Dr Usui answered that, having arrived at this point, he could not go back now.
Dr Usui climbed one of the sacred mountains of Japan and meditated for a period of twenty-one days. Each day he put aside one stone from a pile of twenty-one that he had collected.
On the twenty-first day, a bright light suddenly appeared, coming towards him. Although he was afraid, he did not move. It struck him on the forehead and he fell. He had seen the symbols he had found in the sutras. As the symbols were presented before him, instructions were also given to him in the use of each symbol, thus he was taught the full meanings of these ancient, sacred writings
When the trance ended, Dr. Usui did not feel tired any more, nor did he have any anxiety, or hunger, as was the case a few moments before, in this last day of his meditation.
He rose and began his journey down the mountain. On the way, he tripped on a root with his big toe and the caught the toenail. He jumped in pain and took his toe in his hand. The pain stopped, blood stopped flowing, the recovery of his toe was already very advanced. When he arrived at the foot of the mountain, he stopped at an old merchant's and ordered a hearty breakfast.
The old man, seeing the length of Dr. Usui's beard, the state of his clothes and his hungry appearance, told him that he would need some minutes to prepare food, so he invited Dr Usui to sit down on a bench under a tree while waiting.
Soon the merchant's daughter came with his breakfast. While he looked at her, Dr Usui saw that she had been crying and that her face was swollen and red on one side. He asked what the problem was and she said that she had been suffering from toothache for three days. He asked if he could touch her face and with her permission, he placed his hands on her cheeks. In some minutes the pain vanished and the swelling began to decrease.
On return to the monastery that same evening, Dr. Usui learned that his friend, the abbot, was bedridden and that was suffering from osteoarthritis. After having taken a bath and eaten something, Dr Usui went to see his friend and with his healing hands, relieved his pain.
During the seven years that followed, Dr Usui worked in Japan, in a work camp, healing patients. He sent those that were young and capable among them to look for work. Towards the end of the seven years, he began to see those that he had helped were returning to the camp, in the same state that he had found them in.
He asked people why they had come back and they answered that they preferred their ancient way of living. Dr. Usui realised that he had taken care of the physical illnesses of the body, but he had not taught their minds about life, or a new way to live. He left the work camp and began to teach to those that wished to know more. He taught them to heal themselves and gave them the principles of Reiki to help them to heal their mind.
Dr. Usui then met Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a 47 year old reserve Naval Officer who became his most dedicated disciple.
When Dr. Usui died, Dr. Hayashi became the Reiki Grand Master, continuing the tradition of teaching and healing. As Dr. Usui's life came to its end, he had recognised Dr Hayashi as Master of Reiki and charged him to keep intact the definition of his teaching.

If your soul guides you toward initiation into REIKI, take time to choose your Master for all levels of your initiation. You could choose between the Master "state" and the Master "title." The choice will be better if it is made by your soul.
It is necessary to know that our soul chose to live some situations and to teach some lessons on this plan of existence. We each have our karma, and REIKI helps us to cross it in a soft and subtle way. We give the same quantity of REIKI, no matter what we are treating. It is the one that receiving the energy that determines how much, or how little they will receive. In practising REIKI, we put ourselves in a state of mind that permits us to give freely, without judgement, so that each person being treated is as well as possible.
REIKI is an energy of recovery, transmitted by the hands of a channel that has been connected directly to the source by the process of initiation. The energy of REIKI comes from the Creator. The channel that transmits the energy is simply a duct that allows the "light" to pass through it, for the benefit of the client. The channel through which the energy passes (the practitioner) does not work with their own energy and therefore, they are not draining themselves of energy. Sometimes, some channels allow themselves to be "in the path." Then the energy does not flow as much and the channel can try what is called a sympathetic drainage. For this, the mind of the channel must be devoid of any physiological or mental attitude, or thoughts about the condition of the client. A person that receives REIKI simply feels better.

Use your intuition. Follow your impressions, even though you may think that they are strange. Be aware. People must ask to be healed. They must accept the method.
Energy knows what it has to do. It comes from the intention to heal and people come with the intention to heal. Don't worry about results, or if what you are doing is correct or not. You cannot make any mistakes while applying the energy. On the physical plane, when you touch, you heal. When you remove your hands, everything ceases.
Your are the reception point to guide the energy. There is a continual major exchange of energy when you work on another person. The energy will go where it is most needed. The law of the attraction is as follows: when a person comes to you, it is you that they want. Deal with them from your heart. You are ready. You have done this during previous lives.
The session may last from one hour to one hour and half hours. Put yourself completely in God's hands. You do not know anything. Let things happen. There are no rules. Everyone possesses a different molecular structure. For most people, the left side is more receptive and the right side transmits. If someone has been exposed to units of a major frequency, the left side transmits and the right side receives. The same thing applies to the channel. However, that makes no difference when one applies hands on someone. It simply means that the energy is more powerful when one transmits it.
Don't believe that nothing happens, as something is happening all the time. Avoid automatism. Do not concentrate on what you are doing. Do not try to either push or force the energy. When we try to do this, we decrease the level of energy. Keep your conscience outside of this channelling procedure. Keep your mind clear.
Channels of REIKI are people from to all areas of society, all races, all disciplines, that received "keys" of intensification of the energy from a qualified REIKI Master. Those that continue to share and to teach the system are those pre-destined in outlook to purify the planet. Many are called, but few are chosen. Will you be part of it? Remember, the ego shouts and the higher self whispers.
Sometimes you will find that the REIKI does not seem to flow and you will feel that there is no channelling of energy. This can be due to different reasons, one being the fact that you expected to get a certain effect and that the karmic exchange law took over and brought something else. Because you do not see a result on the surface, this does not mean that something deeper has not happened inside the person being treated. After all, not everybody likes to speak of their inner experiences. Often, the person being treated does not have the slightest idea, on the conscious plane, of what made them ill. The subconscious holds the keys of the effectiveness of REIKI on all levels. Consciously, the person will say: "Please help me, I want to be well." However, their mind may be saying something completely different in every way. In such a case, it becomes necessary to use a therapy in conjunction with REIKI.
Do not feel disappointed if your intentions are not reached with some clients. With REIKI, nothing is reached by pure will. Our ego must take second place and we must make way for the higher self. You are a channel of REIKI, you do not heal, you are a neutral observer and a witness of certain functions of recovery. When REIKI does not function, the client's will to be healed is merely an excuse. Unconsciously, the client does not want to be healed or to be well again. Several people cling to an illness, which they see as having some advantages. For some, it is a means to get attention and sympathy. Others can believe that the REIKI is a strange way of treatment, rather than a spiritual transmission.
For the previous reasons, never try to persuade someone to receive REIKI. Simply tell them what it is and how it works. If they want it, good! If they do not want it, that is also OK. Sometimes, the person has still not had the time to learn the lesson taught by the illness, so they may need to be sick a little longer. The illness can prevent the client from overcoming it themselves, thus doing themselves harm. On other occasions, a client will receive REIKI with good results from a different channel, other than you. Usually, this situation implies a karmic history.
On other occasions, clients will present themselves to you in order to prove to themselves - and may be to you - that a method such as REIKI could not have any possible effect on them. They will lie on your treatment table full of tension, fear, doubt and scepticism. They will resist the circulation of energy and good sensations. They will resist all interior change and resist all manner of harmonies with their body. Therefore, when a client comes to see you for a treatment, give them information and the option to be treated, but do not put them under any pressure. Everyone has free choice and you must always respect that. Do your work well and remain open to what happens. Don't forget that someone who is not convinced of something themselves won't be any more convinced by you.

You are never given an ambition without the power to bring it about! Nevertheless, you may need to make sacrifices for it!
I like it when you sleep because I keep watch over your dreams. As for me, when I am asleep, I entrust my life to you!
